Launched in 1996, the Festival ran for several years under the auspices of Headwaters Country Tourism Association. In late 2001, following two years of significant growth, the Headwaters Arts Festival incorporated as an independent not-for-profit organization.
The Festival’s mission is to be a community-based organization dedicated to fostering the development, appreciation and enjoyment of the arts by promoting the arts in all forms, encouraging interaction between artists and their community, and helping to identify the Headwaters region as a vibrant artistic centre. The Festival is supported by the strong commitment of our volunteers and community partners who strive to create a sense of wonder, adventure and fun for audiences of all ages.
Our primary activity in achieving our mission is to produce an annual Festival, which takes place over a 17-day period during the fall colour season. By extensively promoting a large number of local artists and cultural events under the Festival umbrella, the Festival’s goal is to help them reach a much broader market than any single group or individual could reach on their own. In addition, independent event producers are encouraged to cross-promote with other events by including reference to the Headwaters Arts Festival and its web site in all their own marketing materials.
Although the Festival is now independent from the Tourism association, we have continued a mutually supportive relationship, sharing common goals and advertising partnerships related to the encouragement of tourism that is consistent with the rural environment and heritage at the same time as it supports regional economic development.
HEADWATERS ARTS FESTIVAL is a volunteer-based, non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the development, appreciation and enjoyment of the arts in the Headwaters Region. The annual Festival promotes the arts in all its forms, encourages interaction between artists and the community, and helps identify the region as a centre for the arts.
The Festival is supported by the strong commitment of our volunteers and community partners who strive to create a sense of wonder, adventure and fun for audiences of all ages.
