DUFFERIN TOWN & COUNTRY FARM TOUR
The Dufferin Town and Country Farm Tour is set for Saturday, September 27, 2008. The tour will visit farms and agri-businesses in Amaranth and East Luther. Included on the tour will be beef cattle, dairy cattle, other farm experences - more to be announced.
“The Farm Tour is a great opportunity, especially for kids,” said John Rayburn, Farm Tour Chair. “They can talk to real farmers and make a connection between the food they eat and how it’s grown. People are always amazed not only at the quality of the produce, but also at how farmers are dedicated to protecting the environment."
On the tour, visitors can reach out and touch the farm animals, learn first-hand from host farmers and volunteers about their farming operation. The goal of the tour is to showcase the diversity of farming in Dufferin County and promote an understanding and appreciation of food production and agriculture. You will see farming first-hand. Agriculture is one of Dufferin County's largest industries contributing employment and local economic prosperity.
The Farm Tour is self-paced and covers approximately 50 km. In the passport, there will be a map showing farm locations. Passport that can be picked up between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on the day of the tour at the following location -Hills of Headwaters Information Centre, Orangeville and another location to be announced. Portable washroom and handwash facilities are available at each stop and food concessions will be offered at two stops.Many organizations are contributing displays, demonstrations and activities, including Land Stewardship, Ontario Cattlemen’s Association, Chicken Farmers of Ontario and Women’s Institute, etc.
