Welcome to the Hills of Erin Studio Tour
as we celebrate 20 Years!
Twenty years ago a small group of artists living in and around Hillsburgh Ontario met to discuss forming a Studio Tour. Rosalinde Baumgartner, Jim Reid, Stan Hall, Carol Tyler and Monica & Dave Schut were on the first tour. In May 1988 our first Hills of Erin Studio Tour took place. Today’s Studio Tour Booklet is a far leap from our first one, a small one page brochure and with that we have seen the community support continue to grow. Originally, the tour had six artists representing both fine art and craft at five locations; today we have thirty-seven artists at seventeen locations. Over and above the obvious growth, one thing remains consistent. It is the sense of joy that each artist experiences as they open their doors to their studio and share the love they have for their art with an appreciative audience.
As the years have passed, our villages and towns in the region have grown and developed into hip destinations. Our studio tour has embraced technology allowing us to create a permanent website gallery at www.hillsoferinstudiotour.com. And in 2006 the tour won the Artisan of the Year Award from the Hills of Headwaters Tourism Association. Most of the founding artists still participate in this tour and their work reflects their continuing journey. Over the years, we have enjoyed the return of many annual visitors who are now friends, bringing with them a new generation of art lovers. In recent years our audience has quadrupled in number, a testimony to the reputation of the artists on this tour.
However, as we celebrate today and look forward, we also acknowledge participation of artists who are no longer with us. We remember Margaret Smith; Marlene McKendry; Cathy Frank and Tim Stanley.
Your presence on this tour is important to us. When we are each alone in our studios we remember the words of encouragement you have spoken to us. You are a big part of our tour, and we welcome each of you to our studios, to visit with us and to participate in this very special year.

One of Ontario’s longest running studio Tours is celebrating it’s twentieth anniversary on this weekend. The fall colors and rural scenes along the roads taking you to the small towns and villages of Erin, Hillsburgh and Orton provide the perfect backdrop to this award winning, self-guided studio tour. Thirty-eight of the areas most celebrated artists and craftspeople, at seventeen locations open their doors and invite you to experience the world through the eyes of an artist.
You will discover high caliber works of art including: watercolour, acrylic and oil paintings; pottery; unique silver jewellery; stained glass and glass beads; quilts; sculpture, whimsical painted furniture, woven and knitted wearable art; garden sculpture and furniture; iron and metal works, basketry, dried floral, wooden bowls, funky hats and bookbinding.
